چکیده

We discuss the symmetries of quenched QCD with Wilson fermions, starting from its lagrangian formulation, taking into account the constraints needed for convergence of the ghost-quark functional integral. We construct the corresponding chiral effective lagrangian, including terms linear and quadratic in the lattice spacing. This allows us to study the phase structure of the quenched theory, and compare it to that in the unquenched theory. In particular we study whether there may be an Aoki phase (with parity and flavor spontaneously broken) or a first order transition line (with no symmetry breaking but meson masses proportional to the lattice spacing), which are the two possibilities in the unquenched theory. The presence of such phase structure, and the concomitant long-range correlations, has important implications for numerical studies using both quenched and dynamical overlap and domain-wall fermions. We argue that the phase structure is qualitatively the same as in the unquenched theory, with the choice between the two possibilities depending on the sign of a parameter in the low-energy effective theory. 1 e-mail: [email protected] 2 e-mail: [email protected] 3 e-mail: [email protected]

On the phase diagram of quenched QCD with Wilson fermions

In this talk, I reported on recent work on the Aoki phase diagram for quenched QCD with two flavors of Wilson fermions. Part of this work was done in collaboration with Yigal Shamir [1], and a shorter account of this part appeared recently [2]. In this write-up, I will therefore limit myself to reporting on work done with Steve Sharpe and Robert Singleton, Jr. [3], which has not been published ...

Passing through the ‘chiral limit’ in quenched QCD with Wilson fermions

We investigate the limit of vanishing quark mass in quenched lattice QCD with unimproved Wilson fermions at β = 6.0. Exploiting the correlations of propagators at different time slices we extract pion masses extremely close to the ‘chiral limit’, despite the presence of ‘exceptional configurations’. With this at hand, the existence of quenched chiral logarithms can be demonstrated, provided, fi...

Domain Wall Fermions in Quenched Lattice QCD

We study the chiral properties and the validity of perturbation theory for domain wall fermions in quenched lattice QCD at β = 6.0. The explicit chiral symmetry breaking term in the axial Ward-Takahashi identity is found to be very small already at Ns = 10, where Ns is the size of the fifth dimension, and its behavior seems consistent with an exponential decay in Ns within the limited range of ...

Nuclear forces from quenched and 2+1 flavor lattice QCD using the PACS-CS gauge configurations

Two of recent progress in lattice QCD approach to nuclear force are reported. (i) Tensor force from quenched lattice QCD: By truncating the derivative expansion of inter-nucleon potential to the strictly local terms, we obtain central force VC r and tensor force VT r separately from swave and d-wave components of Bethe-Salpeter wave function for two nucleon state with JP 1 . Numerical calculati...

Maximum entropy analysis of hadron spectral functions and excited states in quenched lattice QCD

Employing the maximum entropy method we extract the spectral functions from meson correlators at four lattice spacings in quenched QCD with the Wilson quark action. We confirm that the masses and decay constants, obtained from the position and the area of peaks, agree well with the results from the conventional exponential fit. For the first excited state, we obtain mπ1 = 660(590) MeV, mρ1 = 15...
